A reorder list for small kitchens. Not an inventory app.

What's low. Who to call. That's it.

Made for one-restaurant, mom-and-pop kitchens. Check what's low, and Running Low splits it into one order per supplier, ready to text or email. No stock levels, no units, no costs, no monthly fee.

Free to use. Pro is a $14.99 one-time purchase, no subscription. No units or prices to enter.

Count

Check what you're low on. Tap QTY if the count matters.

The opposite of inventory software

We left almost everything out.

Inventory apps are built for chains with a back office. A small kitchen doesn't need to know it has 14.5 lb of rice. It needs to know to order rice, and from whom.

Inventory apps ask for

  • How much you have on hand
  • Units, pack sizes, conversions
  • Item costs and COGS
  • Recipes and food-cost reports
  • Invoices and POS hookups
  • A login for every cook
  • A monthly fee

Running Low asks for

  • The name you already use. “#7 bag” is fine.
  • Where it's stored. Cold, Frozen, Dry or Paper. Optional.
  • Who sells it. Pick one supplier or a few.

That's the whole setup. Quantity is optional too: “Eggs” means your usual order.

The Tuesday-morning order

One count instead of four lists.

Most kitchens already have a system: a clipboard, a whiteboard and a group text. Running Low keeps the parts that work and drops the retyping.

With a clipboard

  1. Walk the walk-in, freezer, dry storage and paper shelf, writing what's low.
  2. Rewrite the list into one list per supplier.
  3. Text or call each rep, retyping each list.
  4. Next week, guess whether anyone ordered cups.

Four lists, four retypes, no record

With Running Low

  1. Pick Cold, walk in, tap what's low. Then Frozen, Dry, Paper.
  2. Open the order. It's already split by supplier.
  3. Send each list from your phone. Tap to mark it placed.
  4. Every item shows the day it was last ordered.

One count, nothing retyped, dated record

Three screens, that's the app

Count. Order. Send.

1 · Count

Filter to where you're standing.

Cold, Frozen, Dry or Paper, and by supplier if you want. Check what's low. Tap QTY and punch in a number only if the count matters.

2 · Add

Found something new? Add it right there.

Type the name. If it's not on the list, one tap adds it, already set to the shelf and supplier you were filtering by.

3 · Send

Each supplier gets only their list.

Copy it and paste it into the text thread you already have with that rep, or email it if you've saved their address. Items two suppliers carry can move between them with one tap.

Names, not SKUs

Call it what your kitchen calls it.

  • “#7 bag”is the item. Nobody needs “Paper takeout bag, size 7, 500 ct.”
  • “3 pork cutlet”means 3 cases. Quantities have no units, because you already know.
  • “Eggs”with no number means your usual order. Quantity is optional.

What your rep sees

A clean list. No app, no login.

Suppliers get a normal text or email from you. Running Low copies each list ready to paste into the thread you already have with them, or emails it with a printable ticket attached.

Made in a small kitchen

“We built this for our own restaurant. Every inventory app we tried wanted our recipes, our costs and a monthly fee before it would help us order eggs. We just needed to know what's low and who to call. So we made that, and nothing else.”

Questions

Before you ask.

Does my supplier need the app?

No. You paste the list into your usual text thread with them, or email it. They get orders the same way they do now.

My distributor already has an ordering app.

Theirs orders from them. Running Low counts once and splits the list across all your suppliers, including the produce guy who only takes texts.

Will my crew actually use it?

It's a list of names with checkboxes. If they can send a text, they can count. No accounts, no logins.

Is there a subscription?

No. The app is free. Pro is a single $14.99 in-app purchase that stays unlocked for good.

How do I get my list onto a second phone?

With Pro, tap Send list to another phone. Running Low makes a small .lowlist file you share by AirDrop, Messages or email. The other phone opens it and imports for free, merging with what's already there.

What happens to my list if Running Low shuts down?

Nothing changes. Your list lives on your phone, not on our servers, so the app keeps working with no connection to us.

Will it work in the walk-in with no signal?

Yes. Everything works offline. Your list never needs the internet.

Do I have to enter units or prices?

Never. An item is a name, an optional storage area and its suppliers. That's the whole form.

Why doesn't it track how much I have?

Because you can see it. In a small kitchen, keeping stock counts up to date takes longer than the order. You look at the shelf, you know you're low, you check it. Running Low remembers who to order from and when you last did.

Can more than one person count?

Yes. Send your list to their phone once. Then split the walk: one person counts Cold and sends those suppliers, another does Dry and Paper.

Does it track food cost or theft?

No. Running Low is only for knowing what to reorder and from whom. If you need food-cost reports, a full inventory system is the better fit.

Your next order is probably due this week

Next time you’re running low, it’s one list.
